Level Promotion Policy – Summary
Purpose of Promotion System
Promotion decisions are based on demonstrated mastery to ensure students advance with strong foundations and avoid learning gaps that create long-term difficulty.
Reading solutions or relying on explanations does not equal independent problem-solving ability. Promotion reviews confirm true readiness for advancement
Promotion Rules
- Coach-guided promotion applies through Level D2.
- Starting from D2 → E1, all promotions require passing a standardized promotion test.
- Coaches cannot waive promotion test requirements.
Promotion Test Format
Promotion tests:
- Use AMC/AIME-style problems appropriate to the level.
- Require full written solutions.
- Award no credit for answers without reasoning.
- Confirm independent problem-solving ability
Passing Requirement
- Standard passing threshold: 90% mastery.
- After testing, parents may request an exception for 80% mastery, reviewed case-by-case.
- No rounding or partial adjustments are allowed
Fees
- $100 fee applies for parent/student-requested promotion attempts.
- No fee if promotion testing is initiated by the coach.
- $100 fee applies for all retests.
Retest Waiting Period
- Coach-directed retests: minimum 30 days.
- Parent-directed retests: minimum 90 days.
Student Self-Nomination Reward
If a student independently requests promotion testing, pays the fee, and passes in the first attempt, they receive $200 in books or merchandise credit.
Topic-Based Advancement (F2, G1, G2)
At higher levels , advancement may occur by topic mastery, while overall level placement remains unchanged.
Final Note
Not passing a promotion test is not failure - it identifies areas that need strengthening before advancement.
